Stuck on the Puzzle
Happy Wednesday folks!
Making the transition out of a part time job and goinng full time with my art has been an interesting experience. It has been a bit more challenging to fidn the volume of work I had been hoping to find, but psychologically the process of creation feels entirely different. On one hand, I have alway sbeen entirely self reliant with generating work, I knew if I wanted to make something I would just have to go out and shoot. Now, I have to wait and book gigs with other people.
Making time for one’s art is important though, with or without a client. I am wrapping up on preproduction for a fantasy action movie that will start shooting at the end of the month, so artistic fullfillment is always around the corner.
I think the hardest part about this line of work so far is the willingness to put your work out in the world for it to be seen and critiqued by anybody and everybody, although I think I would rather make something that is seen and hated than something that fades into obscurity without ever getting its time of day. Oh well, I think these things are probably all part of the experience and I am definitely still making my way off the ground level. Until I know a better path I’ll just keep on shooting and see what the universe throws my way
Here are some portraits I took a few weeks ago before I left for Puerto Rico. I was approached by Umar, the model, with the assignment to do a character study with this colonial outfit. It led to a great deal of fun exploring the more “period specific” locations and the campiness of long-buttoned coats and pointy hats. I hope you get a kick out of them!
