Read my Mind

Going into the world as an artist has been an experience of trial and error. Trying to start an artistic career right out of college turned out to be quite the aimless wander and without a tangible path to follow a lot of the expectation of what to do and how to do it has been complete speculation.

I had a conversation recently with some dear people about the concept of self-satisfaction; the responsibility we owe to ourselves and the ability to diagnose what we need to feel it. While I think that search for personal satisfaction is ever-changing and abstract at best, I think I have started to narrow down what that means for me.

It’s romantic to think of creativity as something that could strike at any moment and while I’m certainly inspired by things and people all around me I find that most of my ideas only gestate when I take the time to sit down and create on my own volition.

Being creative and taking time to cultivate and nurture my creative voice is something I need to feel fullfilled. Naturally, everything comes in waves, but being removed from the construct of school means that nobody can force me to go out and create but myself.

This collection comes from a shoot void of inspiration beyond being in the moment with my model, Chris. Having one conversation with Chris is enough to find a spark to chase when in a creative environment. His vigor and curiosity really show through in these pictures. Thank you Chris for being the gem that you are!

I am very proud of these portraits, I hope you enjoy!

Until next week!
