In a Nutshell
I go through periods where I shoot a lot of film and wait a while to get it developed. Part of it is my twenty-something budget that I’m currently rocking, but I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a part of me that really enjoyed the process of re-experiencing the photos after the passage of time.
These pictures here came from a roll of Cinestill 50D I shot back in August while on vacation with my family. Growing up, we used to spend a lot more time together, but as we all got older and our families started to move around these family expeditions became a bit less frequent. Having so many of us together again for this trip was very special and I tried to capture these sweet little moments on this one roll.
I love film, the tactility of shooting with it, the sound and feel of the shutter when you press down the release, holding the negatives up to the light to see a small glimpse of the picture; it’s all so satisfying. When I shoot digitally, I still try and emulate that gritty feeling- the warmth in the shadows, the softness of the light- but nothing can quite get that look better than film itself.
With that, enjoy this little stroll down memory lane with me.
Until next week.
